Elatiivmoodustused are a grammatical concept found in some languages, notably Finnish and Estonian, which express a movement away from or out of something. They are a type of case marking that modifies nouns to indicate this specific spatial relationship.

In Finnish, the elative case is typically marked by the suffix -sta or -stä. For example, "talo" (house) becomes "talosta" (from the house). This case can describe literal movement out of a physical location, such as "Lähden talosta" (I am leaving from the house). However, it can also be used metaphorically to indicate origin or source, like "Hän on kotoisin Suomesta" (He is from Finland), or even to express a feeling or state, such as "Olen väsynyt tästä" (I am tired of this).

Estonian also has an elative case, often indicated by -st. Similar to Finnish, it signifies movement from a place, for instance, "majast" (from the house). It also extends to figurative meanings, denoting the source of something or a feeling of being tired of something. The elative moodustused therefore provide a nuanced way to express a range of outgoing or originating relationships between a noun and other elements in a sentence.
