ekspansif

Ekspansiv is a Danish and Norwegian adjective meaning expansive, outward-moving, or expansive in character. In everyday language it is used for people or behaviors that are sociable, enthusiastic, or demonstrative, such as en ekspansiv personlighed (an expansive personality) or et ekspansivt humør (an expansive mood). The term can carry neutral or positive connotations depending on context.

In psychology and psychiatry, ekspansiv describes a mood state characterized by elevated energy, heightened self-confidence, talkativeness, and reduced need for sleep. Clinically it may indicate an expansive or grandiose mood typical of manic or hypomanic episodes and is assessed alongside other symptoms to diagnose mood disorders.

Etymology and usage: Ekspansiv is related to the English expansive and derives from the same root as Latin expansus, via French or Germanic languages. In Nordic medical and psychological writing the term appears in neutral descriptive use as well as diagnostic contexts. It is less common outside clinical or academic discourse.
