Edelleenlähetys, or forwarding, is a telecommunications service that allows a phone number to automatically redirect incoming calls to another specified number. This feature is commonly used by individuals and businesses to manage calls when they are unavailable at their primary number.

There are several types of call forwarding. Unconditional forwarding immediately sends all calls to the designated number without any ringing on the original line. If I cannot answer my phone, I can set up conditional forwarding, which redirects calls only after a certain number of rings or if the line is busy. Busy forwarding specifically directs calls to another number when the original line is engaged. No answer forwarding is similar to conditional forwarding, but it triggers only if the call is not answered within a set period.

To set up call forwarding, users typically access the feature through their phone's settings menu or by dialing specific service codes provided by their mobile or landline carrier. These codes vary by network provider. For example, to activate unconditional forwarding, one might dial a code followed by the destination number. Deactivation is usually done by dialing another specific code.

The primary purpose of call forwarding is to ensure that important calls are not missed, regardless of the user's location or availability. It is a convenient tool for managing communication across multiple devices or for redirecting calls to a specific department or individual within an organization. Carriers may charge a fee for using certain call forwarding services, or it may be included as part of a subscription plan.
