Dødbåndet is a Danish term that translates to "dead band" or "dead zone." It is primarily used in technical contexts, particularly in electronics and radio communication, to describe a range of frequencies or signal values within which a device or system is unresponsive or exhibits minimal activity.

In radio communications, a dødbåndet refers to a frequency band that is either not assigned for use, is subject to interference, or is intentionally left unused to prevent adjacent channel interference. This dead band ensures a buffer zone between active communication channels. Tuning a radio receiver to a frequency within the dødbåndet will typically result in silence or static.

Within electronics, the concept of a dødbåndet can apply to control systems or sensors. For instance, in a thermostat, a small temperature range around the set point might be considered a dødbåndet, preventing the heating or cooling system from cycling on and off too frequently. This is also known as hysteresis. Similarly, a sensor might have a dead zone where it does not register small changes in input, such as a slight vibration.
