The term *dosisequivalenten* refers to the concept of dose equivalence in radiation protection, specifically the comparison of different types of ionizing radiation based on their biological effectiveness. In radiation dosimetry, not all types of radiation have the same impact on human tissue, even if they deposit the same amount of energy per unit mass. To account for this, the concept of dose equivalence is used to standardize risk assessments.

The primary unit for measuring absorbed radiation dose is the gray (Gy), which quantifies the energy deposited per kilogram of tissue. However, since alpha particles, beta particles, and neutrons can cause more biological damage than X-rays or gamma rays at the same absorbed dose, a weighting factor called the radiation weighting factor (w_R) is applied. This factor varies depending on the type of radiation: for example, alpha particles have a weighting factor of 20, while photons (such as X-rays) have a factor of 1.

The resulting quantity, known as the *equivalent dose*, is measured in sieverts (Sv) and is calculated by multiplying the absorbed dose (in Gy) by the radiation weighting factor (w_R).
