Discretesampled refers to a signal or function that has been sampled at specific, separate points in time or space. Unlike continuous signals, which exist and are defined for all values within a given range, a discretesampled signal only possesses values at these discrete intervals. This process of sampling is fundamental in digital signal processing and data acquisition.

The act of discretesampling involves taking measurements of a continuous signal at regular or irregular intervals. The rate at which these samples are taken is known as the sampling rate or sampling frequency. The Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem states that to perfectly reconstruct a continuous signal from its discrete samples, the sampling rate must be at least twice the highest frequency component present in the original signal. If this condition is not met, aliasing can occur, where high frequencies are misrepresented as lower frequencies, leading to distortion in the reconstructed signal.
