dcterms:references is a property in the Dublin Core Terms (DCMI) vocabulary. It expresses a relationship from the described resource to other resources that are referenced or cited by that resource. In RDF terms, the property links the subject resource to one or more objects that identify the referenced resources.

Usage and semantics: The value of dcterms:references is typically a URI identifying the referenced resource, such as a bibliographic citation, a dataset, or a related document. The range is the class Resource, and multiple values may be used to encode several references. This property is commonly included in metadata for scholarly articles, theses, or digital objects that include formal references.

Relation to other Dublin Core terms: dcterms:references is related to dcterms:relation, but is used specifically for references cited by the resource. If the direction of the relationship is reversed, dcterms:isReferencedBy can be used. Other related properties handle broader or more specialized connections, such as dcterms:isPartOf or dcterms:hasVersion.

Implementation notes: In RDF serializations, a triple may appear as: <http://example.org/resource1> dcterms:references <http://example.org/resource2> .
