Cytoplazma is the material or protoplasm within a living cell, excluding the nucleus. It comprises cytosol, an aqueous gel-like substance, and the various organelles suspended within it. In eukaryotic cells, the cytoplasm encompasses everything between the cell membrane and the nuclear envelope. In prokaryotic cells, which lack a nucleus, the cytoplasm includes the entire content within the cell membrane.

The cytosol is primarily composed of water, salts, and organic molecules. It serves as the medium for many metabolic reactions, including glycolysis. Organelles within the cytoplasm have specialized functions. These include mitochondria, responsible for energy production through cellular respiration; ribosomes, where protein synthesis occurs; the endoplasmic reticulum, involved in protein and lipid synthesis and transport; and the Golgi apparatus, which modifies, sorts, and packages proteins and lipids. Lysosomes contain digestive enzymes, while vacuoles can store water, nutrients, or waste products.

The structure and composition of the cytoplasm are crucial for cell function, enabling essential processes like movement, growth, and reproduction. It plays a vital role in maintaining cell shape and integrity. The dynamic nature of the cytoplasm allows for the transport of molecules and organelles within the cell, a process often facilitated by the cytoskeleton, a network of protein filaments.
