clinicalstage
Clinical stage refers to a phase in the development of a new drug or therapy. Once a potential treatment has shown sufficient promise in preclinical studies, which involve laboratory and animal testing, it can then advance to clinical trials. These trials are conducted in humans and are designed to assess the safety and efficacy of the treatment. The term "clinical stage" encompasses all the phases of human testing, from early-phase trials (Phase 1, which primarily focuses on safety and dosage) through later-phase trials (Phase 2, which examines effectiveness and side effects, and Phase 3, which confirms efficacy, monitors side effects, and compares it to standard treatments). A company or research institution is considered to be in the clinical stage when they have one or more treatments undergoing human testing. Progression through these clinical stages is a lengthy and rigorous process, with each phase needing to demonstrate successful outcomes before the next can begin. Approval by regulatory bodies, such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States, is contingent upon the successful completion of these clinical trials.
