Ciljnog is a small village located in the northern part of the municipality of Škocjan, in central Slovenia. It lies within the traditional region of Styria and is now part of the Savinja Statistical Region. The settlement covers an area of roughly 1.5 square kilometres and sits at an elevation of 335 metres above sea level. According to the most recent census conducted in 2011, Ciljnog had a population of 128 residents, although current estimates suggest a slight decline in population due to urban migration trends.

The origins of the name "Ciljnog" are traceable to the medieval Slovene word *cilj*, meaning “goal” or “target”, reflecting its historical role as a boundary marker between neighbouring estates. Early records from 1468 list the village as Čiljnog, indicating its long-standing presence in the region. Over the centuries, the village has been predominantly agrarian, with local farmers cultivating wheat, barley, and rye, as well as raising dairy cattle. In the 19th century, a small sawmill operated on the nearby Loka Creek, contributing to the local economy.

Cultural life in Ciljnog is centred around the rural community hall, which hosts traditional Styrian folk music evenings and seasonal festivals such as the annual harvest celebration. The village also maintains a small primary school serving children from Ciljnog and neighbouring hamlets. Public infrastructure is modest, consisting of a network of unpaved roads connecting to the main paved road leading to Škocjan, and a communal drinking water supply sourced from a local reservoir.

Despite its modest size, Ciljnog exemplifies the resilient rural communities of central Slovenia, preserving traditional agricultural practices while adapting to modern administrative structures and regional development initiatives.
