The CNS is protected by the skull and spinal column, which provide physical support and help to maintain a stable internal environment. The blood-brain barrier, a specialized structure that regulates the exchange of substances between the blood and the brain, also plays a crucial role in protecting the CNS.

The CNS is vulnerable to various diseases and injuries, such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, and neurodegenerative disorders. Advances in neuroscience and medical technology have led to significant improvements in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of CNS disorders.
