The synthesis of cellulose occurs at the plasma membrane, where the enzyme catalyzes the transfer of glucose units from UDP-glucose to the growing cellulose chain. The resulting cellulose microfibrils are then deposited into the cell wall, providing structural support and rigidity to the cell.
