Bell patterns refer to the characteristic sound profiles produced by bells, particularly those of the campanological type. These patterns are not random but are the result of the bell's physical properties, including its shape, size, material, and the method of striking. The fundamental tone, along with a series of overtones (also known as harmonics or partials), combine to create the unique timbre of a bell.

The precise tuning of these partials is crucial to the perceived musicality of a bell. Professional bell founders meticulously adjust the metal thickness in specific areas to control the frequencies of these overtones. A well-cast bell will have a harmonious relationship between its fundamental tone and its partials, creating a clear and pleasing sound. Conversely, a poorly tuned bell may sound dissonant or "unmusical."

The striking of a bell also influences its pattern. Whether struck by a clapper (internal) or a hammer (external), the force and point of impact can subtly alter the initial sound and the decay of the tone.
