Basicitet is a term used in chemistry to describe the ability of a molecule or ion to accept a proton (H+) or donate an electron pair. This property is fundamental to acid-base chemistry, a cornerstone of chemical reactions. Substances that readily accept protons are called bases, while those that donate protons are called acids. The strength of a base is often quantified by its base dissociation constant (Kb) or its conjugate acid's acid dissociation constant (Ka). A higher Kb value indicates a stronger base.
The concept of basicity is not limited to simple molecules. Many organic compounds, particularly those containing
