Bariäärit are a class of subatomic particles that are composed of three quarks. This is in contrast to mesons, which are composed of a quark and an antiquark. The most familiar examples of baryons are protons and neutrons, which are the building blocks of atomic nuclei.

The fundamental constituents of baryons are quarks, which are fundamental particles that experience the strong nuclear force. There are six types, or "flavors," of quarks: up, down, charm, strange, top, and bottom. Each quark also has a corresponding antiparticle, called an antiquark. The property of color charge is also important for baryons. Quarks possess a quantum mechanical property called color charge, which comes in three types: red, green, and blue. For a composite particle like a baryon to be stable, it must be "color neutral." This is analogous to how the colors red, green, and blue combine to form white light. Baryons achieve color neutrality by combining three quarks, each with a different color charge.

The study of baryons and other hadrons (particles made of quarks) is a significant area of particle physics, particularly within the Standard Model. Understanding the interactions and properties of these particles is crucial for comprehending the fundamental forces of nature and the structure of matter.
