AntiBlackness is a term used to describe the specific antagonism, devaluation, and dehumanization of Black people. It is distinct from racism, which is a broader system of prejudice and discrimination based on race. AntiBlackness refers to the unique and pervasive historical and ongoing violence, discrimination, and social, economic, and political marginalization directed towards people of African descent. It is rooted in the history of the transatlantic slave trade and its enduring legacies, which constructed Blackness as inherently inferior, undesirable, and dangerous.

This concept highlights that anti-Blackness operates not just through explicit acts of racism but also through systemic structures and cultural norms that disadvantage Black people. It can manifest in various ways, including police brutality, racial profiling, disparities in housing and employment, and the widespread negative stereotypes that permeate media and popular culture. AntiBlackness is seen as a foundational element within many global racial hierarchies, shaping how Black individuals and communities are perceived and treated worldwide.
