Analogii is the Czech plural form of the word analogy, which refers to a comparison between two different things that highlights a similarity in some aspects. An analogy usually involves a source domain, the thing that is well understood, and a target domain, the thing that is being explained. The comparison is used to make the characteristics of the target domain clearer by mapping the known patterns from the source domain onto it.

In philosophy and logic, analogies are classified as either formal or informal. Formal analogies have a precise, structured correspondence, while informal analogies rely on more general similarity and are often used in everyday reasoning. Other classifications include statistical analogies, where one draws parallels based on common attributes across populations, and deductive analogies, which are employed to infer conclusions about a target based on known facts about a source.

Analogies play an important role in natural language. As a linguistic device they can function as metaphors or similes, enriching prose and poetry by linking unfamiliar concepts to familiar ones. In scientific writing, analogues are frequently used to suggest hypotheses; for instance, the electron was likened to a planet orbiting the nucleus when the early atomic model was developed.

In education, analogies help learners grasp abstract ideas by connecting them to concrete experiences. Teachers frequently employ analogical examples to explain complex topics such as calculus, algebra, or physical phenomena. Critical thinking curricula are increasingly aware of the potential for analogical reasoning to both clarify and mislead, and educators are taught to evaluate the appropriateness of each analogy.

Cross‑culturally, the effectiveness of analogies varies depending on shared cultural knowledge. An analogy that resonates in one language or culture may be obscure or carry different connotations in another. Translators and international scholars must therefore be careful to adapt analogical references so that the intended comparison remains clear and meaningful.
