An aminorühmast is a term used in organic chemistry to describe the functional group consisting of a nitrogen atom bonded to one or more alkyl or aryl groups. It is a derivative of ammonia where one or more hydrogen atoms have been replaced by organic substituents. The general formula for an amine is RnHmN, where R represents an alkyl or aryl group and n+m = 3.

Amines are classified based on the number of organic groups attached to the nitrogen atom. Primary amines have one organic group attached (RNH2), secondary amines have two organic groups attached (R2NH), and tertiary amines have three organic groups attached (R3N). Quaternary ammonium salts are also related, where the nitrogen atom is bonded to four organic groups, resulting in a positively charged nitrogen and a counterion.

The properties of amines are largely influenced by the presence of the nitrogen atom, which is electronegative and possesses a lone pair of electrons. This makes amines basic, as the lone pair can accept a proton. Amines can also act as nucleophiles due to the lone pair. Their solubility in water varies depending on the size of the organic groups; smaller amines are generally soluble, while larger ones are less so. Amines are found in many important biological molecules, such as amino acids, proteins, and nucleic acids, and are also used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, dyes, and polymers.
