OEMs play a crucial role in the supply chain. They specialize in producing specific parts or complete products to the exact specifications of their client, who is often a larger company. For instance, a car manufacturer might outsource the production of engines or tires to an OEM. Similarly, a technology company might contract an OEM to build smartphones or laptops that are then sold under the brand name of the contracting company.

The relationship between an OEM and its client is built on trust and adherence to quality standards.
