al-Tha'alibi was a prominent Arab scholar and lexicographer who lived from around 961 to 1038 CE. His full name was Abu Mansur Abd al-Malik ibn Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Tha'alibi al-Nisaburi. He was born in Nishapur, a major city in Persia, and spent much of his life there. Al-Tha'alibi is renowned for his significant contributions to Arabic language and literature, particularly in the field of lexicography and belles-lettres.

His most famous work is "Fihrist al-Ulum" (Encyclopedia of Sciences), which is a comprehensive overview of various fields of knowledge known at the time, including grammar, literature, medicine, astronomy, and mathematics. Another highly regarded work is "Lata'if al-Ma'arif" (Subtleties of Knowledge), a collection of anecdotes, proverbs, and literary gems. Al-Tha'alibi also authored several influential books on Arabic grammar and poetry. His writings are characterized by their breadth of knowledge and elegant prose, making them valuable resources for understanding the intellectual landscape of the Islamic Golden Age.
