alSultaniyya

Al-Sultaniyya is a historic district located in the southern part of the city of Baghdad, Iraq. Originally developed during the Abbasid Caliphate in the 9th century, it served as a prominent residential and administrative area for the ruling elite. The name "Al-Sultaniyya" derives from the Arabic word "Sultan," reflecting its association with the powerful rulers of the period.

The district was designed as a planned urban space, featuring wide avenues, gardens, and palatial residences. It housed the caliphs' palaces, government offices, and the homes of high-ranking officials. The area was also known for its lush gardens, fountains, and water channels, which were integral to the Abbasid architectural style.
