akrosomal
Akrosomal, or acrosomal, refers to the acrosome, a cap-like organelle located over the anterior part of the sperm head. The term is used in reproductive biology to describe structures and processes associated with this organelle. During spermiogenesis, the acrosome forms from vesicles derived from the Golgi apparatus. These vesicles fuse to form the acrosomal cap, which covers the nucleus at the front of the sperm and is enclosed by the acrosomal and plasma membranes.
The acrosome contains digestive enzymes, including acrosin and hyaluronidase, that enable penetration of the egg’s zona
Clinical and scientific relevance includes the observation that defects in acrosome formation or function can contribute
