Adyge, also known as Adyghe or Adygey, refers to an ethnic group indigenous to the northwestern Caucasus region. They are a Circassian people, speaking the Adyghe language, which belongs to the Northwest Caucasian language family. Historically, the Adyge lived in a region called Circassia, a territory that encompassed parts of modern-day Krasnodar Krai and the Republic of Adygea in Russia. Their traditional society was organized into distinct principalities or territorial communities, each with its own leadership.

The Adyge have a rich cultural heritage characterized by distinct traditions, music, dance, and a complex system of social customs. They were historically known for their martial prowess and strong sense of honor. In the 19th century, during the Caucasian War, many Adyge were displaced from their homeland, with significant numbers emigrating to the Ottoman Empire and the Middle East. The Republic of Adygea, established within the Russian Federation, is the primary modern-day political entity associated with the Adyge people, serving as a center for their cultural and national life. Despite historical dispersal, the Adyge continue to maintain their distinct identity and cultural practices.
