Advektive is a term used in some scientific languages to refer to phenomena related to advection, the transport of a substance or property by the bulk motion of a fluid. In English, the standard adjective is advective, and advektive appears mainly as a transliteration or in non-English linguistic contexts. The noun form advection describes the transport process itself.

Advection differs from diffusion: advection is directed transport by a velocity field, whereas diffusion arises from random molecular motion and tends to smooth gradients. In mathematical models, advection contributes terms such as u · ∇c or ∇·(u c) to the transport equation for a scalar c, with the exact form depending on the chosen formulation. In many cases, advection is described as the movement of quantities with the flow, distinct from spreading due to molecular diffusion.
