Znam

Znam is the first-person singular present indicative form of the verb znati in several South Slavic languages, most notably Croatian, Bosnian, and Serbian. It means “I know” and is used to express knowledge, awareness, or certainty about a fact, person, or situation.

Etymology and form: Znam derives from the Proto-Slavic verb znati, meaning “to know.” It is part of a common set of present-tense forms that include znaš (you know) and zna (he/she/it knows). In Serbian Cyrillic, znam is written as знам.

Usage and examples: In everyday speech, znam is used to state knowledge or certainty. Examples include: “Znam odgovor.” (I know the answer.) “Znam da si dobar.” (I know that you are good.) To form questions about knowledge held by the speaker, the particle li can be added: “Znam li to?” (Do I know that?)

Geographic and linguistic scope: The form znam appears in Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian, reflecting standard verb conjugation in these languages. It is not a cognate outside this linguistic group in the same sense and does not function as a common noun or independent term in general usage.
