Yläraajot

Yläraajat is the Finnish term for the upper limbs. In human anatomy, the upper limbs consist of the shoulders, arms, forearms, and hands. These structures are crucial for a wide range of activities, from fine motor skills like writing to gross motor movements such as throwing and climbing. The shoulder girdle, comprising the clavicle and scapula, connects the upper limb to the axial skeleton. The arm, extending from the shoulder to the elbow, contains the humerus bone. The forearm, between the elbow and the wrist, is composed of the radius and ulna. Finally, the hand includes the carpal bones of the wrist, the metacarpal bones of the palm, and the phalanges of the fingers and thumb.

The musculature of the upper limbs is complex, allowing for a vast array of movements including flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, rotation, and circumduction at the various joints. Nerves originating from the brachial plexus innervate these muscles and provide sensory feedback. Blood supply is primarily via the axillary, brachial, and radial arteries. The functional integrity of the upper limbs is essential for daily living, work, and recreation. Injuries or conditions affecting the upper limbs can significantly impact an individual's quality of life.
