Wärmekreisen

Wärmekreisen, a German term, translates to "heating circuits" or "heating loops." In the context of heating systems, it refers to a closed loop through which a heat transfer fluid, typically water or a water-glycol mixture, circulates to distribute heat from a source to its destination. This concept is fundamental to many types of heating installations, including central heating, underfloor heating, and solar thermal systems.

The primary function of a Wärmekreis is to transport thermal energy efficiently. A heat source, such as a boiler, heat pump, or solar collector, heats the fluid within the circuit. A pump then circulates this heated fluid through a network of pipes to radiators, underfloor heating pipes, or other heat emitters. As the fluid passes through these emitters, it releases its heat to the surrounding environment, warming the living space. The cooled fluid then returns to the heat source to be reheated, completing the cycle.

Wärmekreise are designed with specific components to ensure proper operation and safety. These typically include a pump for circulation, expansion vessels to accommodate fluid volume changes due to temperature fluctuations, safety valves to prevent over-pressurization, and control valves to regulate flow and temperature. The design and sizing of a Wärmekreis are critical for the performance and efficiency of the entire heating system, ensuring consistent and comfortable temperatures throughout a building.
