WorldView2s

WorldView-2 was a commercial earth observation satellite operated by DigitalGlobe. Launched on October 8, 2009, it was a successor to the WorldView-1 satellite, offering enhanced capabilities in terms of spatial resolution and spectral bands. WorldView-2 was designed to capture high-resolution imagery of Earth's surface, enabling a wide range of applications.

The satellite featured a multispectral sensor capable of acquiring imagery in eight spectral bands, including panchromatic, red, green, blue, near-infrared 1, and coastal, yellow, and red-edge bands. This expanded spectral capability allowed for more detailed analysis of land cover, vegetation health, and water quality. The panchromatic resolution of WorldView-2 was 0.5 meters, providing exceptionally detailed views of features on the ground.

WorldView-2 was utilized for various purposes, including urban planning, environmental monitoring, disaster response, agriculture, and defense intelligence. Its ability to collect imagery rapidly and its extensive spectral range made it a valuable tool for geoscientific research and commercial applications. DigitalGlobe later became Maxar Technologies, and WorldView-2 continued to be a significant asset in their satellite constellation for many years. The satellite's operational lifespan contributed valuable data to a global archive of Earth imagery.
