Wälde

Wälde is a municipality in the district of Hildburghausen, in Thuringia, Germany. It is situated approximately 10 kilometers southwest of Hildburghausen, the district's principal town. The municipality was formed on January 1, 2019, through the merger of the former municipalities of Volkmannsdorf, Wellersdorf, and Wälde itself.

The area of the municipality is characterized by hilly terrain, with the Vogtei hills forming a notable feature of the landscape. The municipality is located within the Thuringian Forest biosphere, which stretches across the states of Thuringia, Hesse, and Bavaria. This region is recognized for its unique cultural and natural heritage, as well as its diverse wildlife habitats.

The town of Wälde itself has a long history, with archaeological findings dating back to the Neolithic period.
