Vörösvértestképződés, or erythropoiesis, is the process by which red blood cells are produced. This vital biological process primarily occurs in the bone marrow of mammals, although in fetal development it takes place in the yolk sac, liver, and spleen. Red blood cells, also known as erythrocytes, are responsible for transporting oxygen from the lungs to the body's tissues and carrying carbon dioxide back to the lungs.
