Väylä

Väylä (Finnish for "channel" or "route") is the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, a government agency responsible for planning, building, maintaining and developing the state's transport infrastructure in Finland. Its remit includes the national road and rail networks and related waterways, as well as corridors important for international and domestic transport. Väylä works to ensure safety, reliability and efficiency of these networks and provides traffic information and asset data to stakeholders and the public.

The agency conducts long-term planning of transport routes, manages major construction and maintenance programs, oversees procurement and contracting for infrastructure projects, and coordinates with municipalities, regional authorities, and private partners to advance national transport projects such as highway improvements and rail upgrades.

Väylävirasto operates under the Ministry of Transport and Communications and is part of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency, Traficom. It was established as part of Finland's 2019 reform of transport administration, taking on responsibilities from earlier agencies such as the former Liikennevirasto.

The Finnish word väylä means "way," "passage," or "channel," reflecting its role as a conduit for national connectivity. The agency is based in Helsinki and maintains regional offices to support local implementation.
