Värmetalet

Värmetalet, also known as the calorific value or heating value, is a measure of the heat released during the complete combustion of a substance. It quantifies the amount of thermal energy that can be obtained from burning a specific quantity of fuel. The unit of measurement for värmetalet is typically expressed in joules per kilogram (J/kg) or kilojoules per kilogram (kJ/kg) for solids and liquids, and joules per cubic meter (J/m³) or kilojoules per cubic meter (kJ/m³) for gases.

There are two main types of värmetalet: the higher heating value (HHV) and the lower heating value (LHV). The higher heating value includes the latent heat of vaporization of water produced during combustion, assuming the water condenses back into liquid. The lower heating value excludes this latent heat, as the water remains in gaseous form at the end of the combustion process. The difference between HHV and LHV depends on the amount of hydrogen in the fuel.
