Vyriausybi

Vyriausybė is the Lithuanian word for government. It refers to the executive branch of government in Lithuania. The Vyriausybė is composed of the Prime Minister and the ministers, who are appointed by the President of Lithuania upon the nomination of the Prime Minister. The government is responsible for implementing laws passed by the Seimas (parliament), managing state affairs, and conducting foreign policy.

The Prime Minister is the head of government and leads the Vyriausybė. They are typically the leader of the largest political party or coalition in the Seimas. The Prime Minister proposes candidates for ministerial positions to the President, who then formally appoints them. The government as a whole is accountable to the Seimas, which can pass a vote of no confidence to remove the government from office.

The specific ministries within the Vyriausybė can vary, but generally include portfolios such as finance, foreign affairs, interior, defense, education, health, and economy. Each minister is responsible for their respective area and heads their ministry's administrative apparatus. The government's primary role is to ensure the functioning of the state and to pursue the policies agreed upon by the governing coalition. Decisions are made collectively by the cabinet, although individual ministers have significant autonomy within their domains. The Vyriausybė plays a crucial role in shaping and executing national policy.
