VolgaTatar
Volga Tatars are a Turkic ethnic group native to the Volga region of Russia. They form the largest ethnic group among Tatars and are concentrated in the republic of Tatarstan, where Kazan is the capital, with significant populations in neighboring regions such as Bashkortostan, Samara, and Ulyanovsk. They generally speak the Tatar language, a Turkic language of the Kipchak branch, and many are bilingual in Russian. The majority are Sunni Muslims, following the Hanafi school.
Historically, Volga Tatars trace their roots to Volga Bulgaria and the later influence of the Golden Horde.
