Vitruviuksen

Vitruvius, whose full name was Marcus Vitruvius Pollio, was a Roman architect, engineer, and author who lived in the 1st century BCE. He is best known for his treatise on architecture, De architectura, which is the only surviving ancient text on the subject. This work was written in Latin and is divided into ten books, covering a wide range of topics including building materials, temples, domestic buildings, water supply, and mechanics.

De architectura was highly influential throughout the Renaissance and beyond, serving as a primary source of knowledge for architects and scholars seeking to understand and revive classical architectural principles. Vitruvius's ideas about proportion, symmetry, and the use of the human body as a basis for architectural design, famously illustrated in his drawing of the Vitruvian Man, have had a lasting impact on Western art and architecture. His writings also offer valuable insights into Roman engineering practices, such as the construction of aqueducts, public baths, and military machines. While little is known about Vitruvius's life, his enduring legacy is cemented by his monumental work, which continues to be studied and admired.
