If the temperature drops below the set point, the heating system is activated; if it rises above, the heating is turned off.

Positive feedback, on the other hand, amplifies deviations, leading to rapid changes or instability. An example of positive feedback is the ripening of fruit, where the release of ethylene gas by one ripening fruit accelerates the ripening of nearby fruits. In technological systems, positive feedback can lead to runaway effects if not carefully managed.

Understanding and implementing appropriate feedback mechanisms is crucial in fields such as engineering, economics, psychology, and environmental science. Effective feedback allows systems to self-correct, learn from past performance, and adapt to changing conditions, ultimately leading to improved outcomes and robustness.
