Verkkovälimuistit, or web caches, are intermediary storage systems that store frequently accessed web content locally. This process significantly speeds up the delivery of web pages to users by reducing the need to fetch data from the origin server every time. When a user requests a web resource, such as an image or a web page, the request is first directed to the cache. If the requested content is found in the cache and is still considered valid (i.e., not expired), it is served directly to the user. If the content is not in the cache or has expired, the cache retrieves it from the origin server, serves it to the user, and stores a copy for future requests.
