Verisuonikehitys

Verisuonikehitys, also known as vasculogenesis, is the biological process by which new blood vessels form from progenitor cells. This process is fundamental to the development of the circulatory system in both embryonic and adult organisms. In embryonic development, vasculogenesis is the initial and primary mechanism for blood vessel formation. Hematopoietic stem cells and endothelial progenitor cells, which originate from the mesoderm, aggregate and differentiate into angioblasts. These angioblasts then align and fuse to form primitive vascular networks.

During embryonic development, vasculogenesis is a critical step for nutrient and oxygen supply to the growing embryo. Following this initial formation, angiogenesis, the process of forming new blood vessels from pre-existing ones, becomes more important in refining and expanding the vascular network. However, vasculogenesis continues to play a role in certain regenerative processes and in the formation of specific vascular structures. The regulation of vasculogenesis involves a complex interplay of signaling molecules, including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptors, which are crucial for the differentiation and migration of endothelial precursor cells.
