Verdauungsdrüsen are exocrine glands that produce and secrete substances essential for the digestion of food. These substances, primarily enzymes, are released into the digestive tract to break down complex food molecules into simpler ones that can be absorbed by the body. The digestive system relies on a coordinated effort of various digestive glands, each contributing specific enzymes and fluids.

Key digestive glands include the salivary glands, stomach glands, intestinal glands, pancreas, and liver. The salivary glands in the mouth secrete saliva, which contains amylase to begin carbohydrate digestion and lipase to initiate fat digestion. The stomach glands produce gastric juice, containing pepsin for protein breakdown and hydrochloric acid to create an acidic environment and kill bacteria. The intestinal glands secrete intestinal juice, further aiding in the digestion of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

The pancreas plays a crucial role by producing pancreatic juice, rich in a variety of digestive enzymes like amylase, lipase, and proteases, which are released into the small intestine. The liver, the largest gland in the body, produces bile, which is stored in the gallbladder and released into the small intestine to emulsify fats, facilitating their digestion by lipase. Together, these verdauungsdrüsen ensure efficient nutrient breakdown and absorption, supporting overall metabolic health.
