Vektormennyiség

Vektormennyiség, often translated as vector quantity, is a fundamental concept in physics and mathematics. It describes a quantity that possesses both magnitude and direction. This distinguishes it from a scalar quantity, which only has magnitude.

Examples of vektormennyiség include displacement, velocity, acceleration, force, and momentum. When we talk about displacement, for instance, we not only specify the distance traveled but also the direction from the starting point to the ending point. Similarly, velocity describes both the speed of an object and the direction in which it is moving.

Mathematically, a vektormennyiség is typically represented by an arrow. The length of the arrow corresponds to the magnitude of the quantity, and the arrowhead indicates its direction. These vectors can be added, subtracted, and multiplied using specific rules of vector algebra. The addition of two vectors, for example, follows the parallelogram rule or the triangle rule, taking into account both their magnitudes and directions.
