Vektorkalkulus, also known as vector calculus, is a branch of mathematics that deals with differentiation and integration of vector fields, primarily in three-dimensional Euclidean space. It is a crucial tool in many scientific and engineering disciplines, including physics, fluid dynamics, and electromagnetism.

The fundamental concepts of vektorkalkulus involve understanding vector fields, which assign a vector to each point in space, and scalar fields, which assign a scalar value to each point. Key operations include the gradient, which describes the direction and rate of steepest ascent of a scalar field; the divergence, which measures the amount of a vector field flowing outward from a point; and the curl, which quantifies the rotational tendency of a vector field.

Vektorkalkulus also encompasses integration techniques for vector fields. Line integrals allow for the calculation of work done by a force field along a curve or the flux of a field across a curve. Surface integrals are used to compute the flux of a vector field through a surface. Volume integrals can be used to find the total amount of a quantity distributed throughout a three-dimensional region.

Several fundamental theorems connect these operations and integrals. Green's theorem relates a line integral around a simple closed curve to a double integral over the plane region bounded by the curve. Stokes' theorem relates a surface integral of the curl of a vector field to a line integral of the vector field around the boundary of the surface. The divergence theorem (also known as Gauss's theorem) relates the flux of a vector field through a closed surface to a triple integral of the divergence of the field over the enclosed volume. These theorems are essential for solving many physical problems.
