Vastaanotto

Vastaanotto is a Finnish noun meaning reception or the act of receiving. It can refer to several related concepts: the reception desk or front of house at a building; a place and staff designated to greet visitors; a social event held to welcome guests; and the reception of a signal or message in technical contexts. The word is formed from vastaan- with otto, the noun from the verb ottaa “to take/receive,” and thus denotes the act of receiving or the place where one is received.

In everyday use, vastaanotto describes the reception area in hospitals, clinics, offices, hotels, and similar facilities, including the receptionist and the administrative function that checks in visitors and directs them. It also refers to formal welcomes, such as a wedding reception or a state reception, i.e., the event where guests are received.

In telecommunications and broadcasting, vastaanotto denotes signal reception—the ability to receive a radio or television signal, a cellular network, or data transmissions. The term can also appear in phrases describing how well a message or invitation is received by an audience or addressees.
