Valtiontukinen

Valtiontukinen is a type of Finnish government scholarship, specifically designed for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. The scholarship is awarded by the Finnish National Agency for Education, the Centre for International Mobility (CIMO), to finance Masters and Ph.D. studies, as well as postdoctoral research, in Finland.

The Valtiontukinen scholarship covers the living expenses of students, researchers, and artists, to help them study, work or conduct research in Finland. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be citizens of a country outside the European Union and must meet the admission requirements of the Finnish higher education institution.

Valtiontukinen scholarships are usually awarded for a maximum of two years and are granted only to those who have not been resident in Finland during the previous six months. Scholarship holders are required to hold at least nine months of health insurance and are restricted to study or research at specified higher education institutions in Finland. Some conditions also require proficiency in Finnish, Swedish, or English.

Beneficiaries are also entitled to certain benefits and privileges included in the scholarship, including basic health care, the right to enter and live in Finland, and tax benefits. Scholars who accomplish their purpose, are granted an extension of residence in Finland for the duration of their studies.
