Vaiheerosetäisyyksiä refers to the phase difference between two waves that are spatially separated. This concept is crucial in wave physics, particularly in understanding phenomena like interference and diffraction. When two waves originate from the same source or are generated in a synchronized manner, their phase relationship at different points in space can be described by this distance. If the phase difference is constant across a surface, that surface is called a wavefront.

In a simple sinusoidal wave, the phase represents a point in the wave's cycle. For example, a phase difference of one full wavelength corresponds to no difference in the wave's state. A phase difference of half a wavelength, however, means the waves are in opposite states.
