Uruzgan

Uruzgan is a province in southern Afghanistan. Its capital is Tarinkot. The province lies in a largely rural, mountainous region in the south, with a semi-arid climate and a landscape shaped by valleys and small rivers.

Population and society: The province is home to several ethnic groups, with Pashtuns forming the largest community; other groups include smaller minorities. Most residents live in villages and rely on agriculture, livestock, and small-scale trade.

History and governance: Uruzgan has a long history within the Afghan state and experienced significant conflict during the 2000s and 2010s. Since 2021, it has been administered by the Taliban as part of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Geography and economy: The terrain is mountainous with arid plains; farming—primarily irrigated crops in valleys—and pastoralism are the main economic activities.
