Uretërës

Uretërës, also known as the ureter, is a muscular tube that connects the kidneys to the bladder. Each adult human has two ureters, one on each side of the body. The primary function of the ureters is to transport urine from the kidneys to the bladder. This process is facilitated by peristaltic contractions, which move the urine along the length of the ureter.

The ureters are approximately 25 to 30 centimeters long and are located retroperitoneally, meaning they are behind the peritoneum. They begin at the renal pelvis, where urine is collected from the kidneys, and extend to the bladder. The ureters pass through the pelvic cavity and enter the bladder at the ureterovesical junction.

The walls of the ureters consist of three layers: the innermost mucosa, the middle muscularis, and the outermost adventitia. The muscularis layer is responsible for the peristaltic movements that propel urine through the ureter.

The ureters play a crucial role in the urinary system, ensuring that waste products are efficiently removed from the body. Any obstruction or damage to the ureters can lead to urinary tract infections, hydronephrosis, or other complications. Understanding the structure and function of the ureters is essential for diagnosing and treating urinary tract disorders.
