Underfloating

Underfloating is a term used to describe the phenomenon where an object or substance appears to be submerged or sinking, yet it remains suspended or floats at a lower depth than its expected buoyancy would suggest. This can occur in various contexts, including fluid dynamics, material science, and even in metaphorical descriptions of emotional states.
