Ulularsh is a traditional ceremonial rite of the fictional people of the Mirthan Isles in the world of Valeron. The practice centers on collective vocalizations, or ululations, and ritual dances performed to honor ancestors and the sea. The term derives from the proto-word ulul-, meaning to howl or lament, with the suffix -arsh indicating a ritual or ceremonial act. Regional dialects render it as ulularsh or ululash.

Practice

Preparations involve fasting, purification, and mask-carving. The ritual begins with collective ululations led by a lead chanter, followed by a procession featuring grain stalks and shells. Drums called thull provide rhythm. Masks depict sea spirits and ancestral figures; participants of mixed ages perform synchronized steps and vocal calls in a call-and-response structure.
