The UVVis spektralbereich, also known as the ultraviolet-visible spectral region, refers to a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that encompasses wavelengths from approximately 10 nanometers (nm) to 1 millimeter (mm). This range is further subdivided into the ultraviolet (UV) region and the visible light region.

The ultraviolet region typically spans wavelengths from about 10 nm to 400 nm. It is further divided into the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) from 10 to 200 nm, the far ultraviolet (FUV) from 200 to 300 nm, and the near ultraviolet (NUV) from 300 to 400 nm. UV radiation carries more energy than visible light and can cause photochemical reactions, such as DNA damage and the production of vitamin D in the skin.

The visible light region comprises wavelengths that are perceptible to the human eye, generally extending from 400 nm (violet) to 700 nm (red). Within this range, different wavelengths are perceived as different colors: violet (400-450 nm), blue (450-495 nm), green (495-570 nm), yellow (570-590 nm), orange (590-620 nm), and red (620-750 nm). Visible light is crucial for vision and plays a significant role in photosynthesis.

Spectrophotometry, a technique that measures how much light a substance absorbs at different wavelengths within the UVVis range, is widely used for identifying and quantifying chemical substances.
