Törmäysvyöhykkeillä
Törmäysvyöhykkeillä are regions where tectonic plates collide. These collisions are a fundamental process in plate tectonics and are responsible for many of the Earth's most dramatic geological features. When two oceanic plates converge, one typically subducts beneath the other, leading to the formation of deep ocean trenches and volcanic island arcs. Continental collisions occur when two continental plates meet. Since continental crust is less dense than oceanic crust, neither plate readily subducts. Instead, the crust buckles, folds, and faults, creating immense mountain ranges like the Himalayas. These zones are characterized by intense seismic activity, with frequent and powerful earthquakes. The immense pressures and temperatures generated during these collisions can also lead to widespread metamorphism of rocks. The geological processes occurring in törmäysvyöhykkeillä are crucial for understanding the Earth's dynamic nature and its long-term geological evolution.
